#Literary #Fiction: POPATOP - A tale of disorganized crime
by Mark Tinney
When a mafia boss decides to set up shop in rural Michigan, he wants his people to run a low-key operation to avoid alerting the Feds.
Things go smoothly until they cross paths with a couple of shady characters in the local community: a dishonest car dealer and a local con artist. Together the two men test the patience of the mob to the breaking point. Suddenly the small town of Bishop’s Cove becomes murder central and the local Sheriff has to try and sort out what is going on.
When the con artist robs the mafia, things really get going. At the center of it all is a hapless elderly barber who suddenly finds every aspect of his life affected by mob activity, most significantly when he finds himself in possession of the mafia’s stolen money. Meanwhile the FBI, which has been tailing the mob boss swoop into town for a major sting, which turns out to be a bust. Things come to a head when the mob has a show-down on the barber’s property during a church social. With equal parts crime, comedy, caper and a dash of suspense, it is the perfect recipe for a good read.
