Vermont is in the middle of an opiate epidemic. Moral Dissipation, set in a fictional Vermont town, is the heart-wrenching story of how twenty-seven year old Ryan Landry’s drug addiction destroys his potentially bright future. He tells the tale of sex, drugs, fatal overdoses, rehab, and robberies from his jail cell.
Portions of the book are also written in the perspectives of his mother, half-brother, and girlfriend, and provide intimate glances at how a single addiction can ruin multiple lives.

I recovered from opioid addiction roughly ten years ago. This book was wonderfully written, especially because of the different perspectives the author uses. After reading this book, I am so incredibly grateful that my will power was strong enough to overcome my addiction.
I remember the day that I reached a point where I considered shooting up percocet, and I remembered the promise I made to myself to get clean if that ever happened. The needle almost reached my vein before I was able to control the craving and say no.
Funny thing is, I remember I was more afraid of the rumor I heard that the needle is more addicting than the drug. So, long story short, I detoxed on my own, and I COMPLETELY understand welcoming death over sobriety. After a stint in prison which I began two weeks after sobriety, I can really relate to the character and what it's like to face demons.
While incarcerated I joined every AA group I could voluntarily. I found healing and solice in helping others overcome their demons. In closing, to the addicts who may be reading this review, deciding if you'd like to read it, I say you definitely should!
To everyone else who has been involved with or knows/loves an addict, this book is for you; it gives a deep insight to what kind of dark overwhelming world opioid addiction is. Often one wants to hate the addict, not realizing the person who suffers from addiction hates it more than you. Imagine being danced around on stage by a puppet master, and you'll have a very small glimpse into the mind of an addict. Can't wait for the sequel!!!!
