Christian Life/Personal Growth: Something Shifted
by Peter J. Osterbauer, M.D.
Christian Life/Personal Growth: Something Shifted: Navigating the Path from Shame to Grace Kindle Edition.
Why do we do the things we do? How do we shift from one place to another? One day, things are going fine, as we may find ourselves skipping gleefully and whistling while we work; the next day, we may find ourselves schlepping one foot in front of the other with our heads hung low.
How did author Peter Osterbauer go from being a successful and respected husband, father, and doctor living in a large home on the side of a mountain, to an adulterous, alcoholic, occultist living in a tiny room in someone’s basement he found on Craigslist? How and why do we sabotage ourselves? More importantly, how do we shift back on track once we’ve dug ourselves into a pit?
Life can be the same. We can be working toward some goal, be it a college degree, starting a family, or living a peaceful life, and a slight shift can send us in a different direction. One small shift can start a chain reaction, sending us into a tailspin of destruction or on the road to freedom.
Join author Peter Osterbauer as he reveals how this type of change transpired in his life, and explore how it may have happened in yours. Together, you will discover how to make corrective shifts if you have wandered off the straight and narrow course. If you are trapped in a way of life that you detest, but don’t know how to find your way out, this book is for you. If you are in quicksand of shame and self-loathing, this book is for you. If you’ve lost all hope and are on the verge of giving up, this book is definitely for you!

God had already been shifting my life back to where I am called to be when I was told about this book. I was experiencing a speed bump of my own that could have sent me right back down the treacherous path I've gone down so many times.
Peter's words encouraged me to stay strong and keep shifting towards the Lord instead of away from Him. Although I've not walked through the same things as Peter, I've been through that same mindset of being so far gone that I'm just messing up everyone else's life, why would anyone want me here, why would God forgive me for what I've done? But He did and He'll do the same for you, if you let him.
If that's where you are, or have been, or are pretty sure that's where you're headed, GET THIS BOOK! Even if you know a loved one in that place, GET THIS BOOK FOR THEM! I bought my own copy and as I was reading, bought another copy for a friend that I believe needs to read it. If not you, someone you know is waiting to read these words of real encounters and how to start moving in the right direction, one small shift at a time.
I think the best part about this book is the real tone that is used.
It's not condescending or patronizing, he's just real and, at times, raw, which is so crucial in a book like this. We don't need the preachy mumbo jumbo, just someone to be real about how it is, what to expect, and how to be better.
