by Donna Blaber
Bruce Goes Home
A funny rhyming story about a possum called Bruce who is sad because he is in the wrong country. Keri the Kiwi and Piri the Pukeko hatch a plan to sling-shot him (using a bungy rope!), back to Australia! Kids love this book's adorable New Zealand themed characters!
Hi! I'm Donna Blaber, the author of the Kiwi Critters series. I'm an established fiction and non-fiction author based in New Zealand. I began writing the Kiwi Critter series when my twin daughters (now eight) were three years old. They loved the stories and as a natural process, they began to learn to read by rhyming them out. Then, as time went on, they followed the actual words themselves. Some of the harder words in the books (for example nocturnal) often leads to further learning and discussion.
Bruce Goes Home is Book 3 in the Kiwi Critters series. Look out for other titles in the series including Keri's Party, Piri's Picnic, and Sausage Sizzle!
The series revolves around the adventures of two main characters, Keri the Kiwi and Piri the Pukeko. Together the pair get up to all kinds of mischief; their escapades include picnics, parties, sausage sizzles and they even use a bungy rope to catapult Bruce the Possum back to Australia!
Young children (aged 2-4 years old) listen intently to these stories and quickly learn to chant along to the words. The books also make ideal early readers for children aged 5-7 years.
The books are designed so they are easy for little hands to hold, while the colourful illustrations, New Zealand themes and fun rhymes appeal to all.
